Pinewood Derby
2008 Schedule
Voluntary Weigh-In on Friday, November 7th from 6:30-7:30pm at Lafayette Presbyterian Church
- Official scales available to weigh cars.
- Receive last minute advice on design and conforming to Derby rules.
Schedule Race Day on Monday, November 10th at Swift Creek Middle School (Pedrick Road):
- 6:00-6:30pm Pizza Dinner and pre-race check-in (please do not wait until the last minute to check-in!!)
- 6:30-6:45pm Opening Ceremonies /Introductions
- 6:45-7:45pm Races start promptly
- 7:45-8:00pm Awards
- 8:00-8:30pm Break down and cleanup

Pack 10 Rules
Use "In-the-box" rules only as guide.
- Width: No
more than 2-3/4 inches wide including the
wheels.
- Length: No
more than 7 inches long.
- Height: No
more than 4 inches tall.
- Weight: Finished
car no more than 5 ounces as judged by pack scales
at the race sign in. All parts
must be firmly attached.
- Wheel Placement Car
body must be at least 1-3/4 inches wide at axles.
And no more than 2 ¾ " wide total. It
must clear the ground at least 3/8 inch. If desired,
you may change the wheelbase (distance between
front and rear axles).
- Parts Use only
official BSA Grand Prix Wood Block, Wheels
and Axles (those in the kit). You
may polish the axles, lightly sand wheels to
remove molding seam on the tread. No other
wheel changes are allowed. You may not use
bearings, washers, bushings or springs, different
wood, different axles, different wheels. You
are allowed to add weight to bring the car
up to 5oz TOTAL. Any parts outside the above
dimension may need to be removed.
- Details Steering
wheel, Driver, Decals, Painting, Interior Details
are allowed. Paint must be dry prior to racing.
Finished car must meet maximum length, width,
height, and weight rules.
- Lubrication Use
dry powdered graphite ONLY. No other lubricant
allowed especially oils or silicone sprays.
Graphite can only be applied before the racing
begins, none between heats.
- Inspection Each car must pass inspection by the Official inspection Committee before it competes. Cars may be disqualified from race for not meeting the Rules. Scouts will be given opportunity to remedy any deficiencies before the race begins.
- All four wheels should touch flat surface equally to provide proper alignment.
- Sanding of axles and molding of wheels may help performance.
- Allow scout to do as much of the construction as they are able.
- NO PRIOR YEAR CAR MAY BE RACED.
- No Store Bought bodies, wheels, or axles
- If you choose to add weight to your vehicle, make sure to secure it well.
- If a weight falls off during racing it cannot be replaced.
