Pack 10 Popcorn Fundraising Information
Frequently Asked Questions
- Will I definitely get some popcorn to sell this year? Yes! We are ordering a 'basic pack' for every cub scout in the pack that will include some of the caramel corn (the lowest-priced item and often the easiest to sell) and a selection of the microwave popcorn. If you want to check out other items, we will have those available as well, and you can select them at the popcorn pickup on Friday, September 26th.
- We are going to go door-to-door with another family. Can we just share popcorn and settle up later? Not exactly! We ENCOURAGE you to go door-to-door with other pack members, especially in those subdivisions where there are multiple scouts in the same neighborhood. If you are planning to do this, though, you need to be responsible for the popcorn YOU check out, and your friends need to do the same. If you agree ahead of time to split a case with another family, we can check out half-cases, but we cannot keep track of individual 'trades.' Please remember that we have to account for every single can or carton at the end of the sale. If something is checked out to you, we ask you to either pay for it or return it.
- If we don't sell all of the popcorn we check out, can we bring it to one of the show and sells? NO! The show and sells are GROUP efforts and every cub scout taking the the time to participate gets credit for a share of the GROUP sales. The popcorn you check out should stay at home. If we find we need unsold popcorn for a show and sell, and you want to turn some back early, one of the popcorn coordinators can arrange that with you directly. But all of the popcorn sold at a show and sell will be credited to the group.
- We sold all our popcorn. Can we get some more? Yes - when the sale closes in October. For the sanity of our record-keepers, and in fairness to the whole pack, we cannot start filling piecemeal orders while the sale is still going on. You can still keep taking orders, though! And don't worry! Some of the highest sellers in past years have been scouts who did nothing BUT take orders. Last year we were able to fill MOST of the orders when the sale period closed.
- Have there been any changes in the types of popcorn since last year? Yes! Kettle corn is no longer available and has been replaced with a tin of trail mix. The other products are still available, including the popular Caramel Corn Light and Butter Light (microwave).
- Is there an online ordering option this year? Yes! Trail's End has made it easier to place online orders, which means you can e-mail all of your out-of-state friends and relatives and ask them to buy popcorn online that will be credited to your cub scout. If you want to do this, you can get an 'order key' from the popcorn coordinators or your den leader, and then use that key at www.orderpopcorn.com.
- You have a case of caramel corn sitting here, and I need a tin. Do you mind? YES! We pay by the case, not the tin, and the district office is becoming more strict about accepting returns. DON'T OPEN CASES UNTIL YOU NEED THEM, and please don't ask us to open an unopened case just for one tin. In some cases it will work out better for the pack to return a case worth $100 and then ask for a single tin. That's just the way it is.
- Well, how long am I going to have to wait to fill all the orders I took, then? Not long! The settlement date (that's the date you give us your order forms and money, and turn in all the popcorn you didn't sell) is going to be during the week of October 20. As soon as all the popcorn is turned in, your dedicated popcorn coordinators will turn around and start filling orders as quickly as possible. Most of your orders will probably be filled by Halloween. If we cannot fill orders from the stock we have on hand, we will place a final order with Trail's End -- the delivery date for those orders will be November 21st, so the LATEST date you will have your popcorn will be the weekend before Thanksgiving.
- Can someone just give us a donation? Yes! If someone simply wants to make a donation directly to the pack, we will accept that gladly. However, please remember that this is a POPCORN FUNDRAISER. We are not soliciting direct donations.
- What about donations for the military? There are two options: a customer can choose a $25 item on the order form and pay for it just like any other tin of popcorn, OR, if the customer asks/offers, we will take smaller donations for the military and combine them. Last year we were able to purchase several of the $25 military gifts simply by pooling miscellaneous small contributions. (And the Pack gets credit for those as "sales," so it is a win-win situation.)
