Message from Cub Master - 1/10/08

Dear parents, I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday break. Just like school, it is time to get back to scouting. We had our committee meeting Tuesday night and finalized some of the plans for the second half of the year. Please check the calendar for the updated list.

Achievements - Parents this is the time of year to make sure you have your child on track to earn their rank. Please take time in the next few weeks to review your child's progress and work with your den leader if you have any questions.

Belt Loops and Pins — Some parents have asked recently about how to earn belt loops and pins. The purpose of these awards is to assist the Scouts in learning a new skill, or improving one they already posses. Belt loops can be earned for academics and sports. Please work with your den leaders to see how you can help your child earn these special awards.

Scouting for Food - Scouting for food is an important event in the Big Bend region to help fill the area food bank shelves. The basic concept is that the boys place empty plastic bags — provided by the pack - in your neighborhood on the first Saturday of February, the bags contain instructions for the home owner, and on the following Saturday the scout returns and picks up the bags. The bags will be distributed to the boys on Jan. 28.

Blue and Gold Dinner - The Blue and Gold Banquet is the annual opportunity for our pack to celebrate the anniversary of scouting, to award the Arrow of Light awards to the WEBLEOS II, and watch them cross over to Boy Scouts. This is also an opportunity to award the other scouts any awards they may earned. This is a banquet for the whole family. More information will be sent out soon.

Camping - Rattlesnake Lake - This has become a favorite camping site for the Pack. As we get closer more information will be sent out.

Cub Family Weekend - This will be similar to cub family weekend we had in the Fall.

POW-WOW - All Leaders this is important training to help ensure that all our leaders maintain their training and earn their requirements toward their knot. Please register by Jan. 19th at http://www.suwanneeriver.net/pdfs/Pow Wow Registration Form 2008.pdf

Den Leader training will be held the same day - if you are a den leader or an assistant and have not received this training, please try to make it. http://www.suwanneeriver.net/pdfs/Den Chief Pow Wow Registration Form 2008.pdf
